On the 18th November 2014 Google announced that it would be placing a “mobile friendly” label in our mobile search results to all websites that display correctly on mobile devices. Websites that do not
comply, can give cause to a very “frustrating experience for our mobile searchers” says Google.

Mobile friendly websitesGoogle bots will now be testing all sights for the following items to test for mobile friendly websites:

  • Avoids software that is not common on mobile devices, like Flash
  • Uses text that is readable without zooming
  • Sizes content to the screen so users don’t have to scroll horizontally or zoom
  • Places links far enough apart so that the correct one can be easily tapped

In April 2015, they made mobile friendly functionality an essential part of Google ranking criteria so if your site does not perform it will rapidly lose its ranking on Google searches.
